ECONOMIC PROFILE
Economy
The economic base of the barangay is fishery and agriculture. Fishing is the major livelihood of the barangay residents. A few are engaged in agriculture. Most of the agricultural lands are not suitable for crop production. Major crop is coconut and minor crop is banana. There are also root crops like potato, ube and taro root and a few vegetable (backyard) gardens.
Livestock raising, although insignificant, is also another source of income. Chicken raising, slightly over 300 heads is another considerable source of income.
There is no industry existing in the barangay except for one wood furniture shop.
In 2009, there were 12 sari-sari stores and one furniture shop in the barangay. There are currently three market blocks, a component of the barangay economic enterprise facility.
Tourism
There are potential tourism spots located in the barangay but these need to be developed and to be provided with on-site/off-site infrastructure facilities/services. The favorite tourism and swimming spot is the Limadjag beach, a sandbar visible only during low tide.
Mt. Haboog, the beautiful natural landmark of the barangay stands as a potential tourist site. Here, a viewing deck with long telescope for a panoramic view even reaching Maasin City, Southern Leyte. Comfort room facilities and camping site are proposed at the Mt. Haboog Ecotourism Park.
Today boating tour can be arranged to view the mangrove tree stands along Lungsodaan Bay and Lutason area, part of the environmentally protected mangrove forest of Mabini and Candijay area.
The Bawangan Mountain forest covering the Bawangan mountain range offers still undiscovered flora and fauna species.
Caves are found in sitio Tubod and Sitio Bawangan, where a beautifully carved karst mountain cliffs that extend toward Popog Point. Caves are also found in Popog Point that form part of the cave chain in the Barangays of Marcelo and Tambo.
Spelunkers and nature lovers can tie up cave visits with those caves found in Anda Peninsula via motorbanca for hire from Lungsodaan wharf towards Popog, Naasug, Marcelo, Cogtong, Candijay and Anda peninsula.
