LUNGSODAAN, MABINI, BOHOL, PHILIPPINES
Lungsodaan (henceforth, referred simply as Barangay) is one of the 22 barangays of the Municipality of Mabini, Bohol, Philippines. The barangay was known as “Quilem” during the Spanish era, later became barangay Batuan and then barangay Lungsodaan, its present name since 1904 when Mabini eventually became a municipality. “Quilem” belongs to the Palm Tree species, like the one found in Sitio Tubod (see photo).
Barangay Lungsodaan was one of the eight barrios, which belong to Candijay and the two barrios of San Jose and Cabulao, which belong to Ubay, that eventually formed and established the municipality of Mabini in 1904. The component barrios were consolidated into this new town through the initiatives of its parish priest, Fr. Jiminez and the then municipal president, Canuto Bernales.
In 1960, Lungsodaan was the main barangay of Mabini, comprising the barangays of Valaga, Baybayon and Cabulao.
The barangay is located along the northeastern seacoast of the municipality, about 9 kilometers east of poblacion Mabinil, or about 113 kilometers from Tagbilaran City, the provincial capital. It is bounded on the north by Cabulao Bay, on the east by Barangay Baybayon, on the southeast by Barangay Marcelo, on the south by Tambo; and on the west by Barangay Valaga.
The barangay can be accessed from the Tagbilaran East Highway- Junction La Union, Candijay and the Mabini Interior Road by Public Utility Bus or V-hire or by private car. Mabini can be accessed also from the municipality of Ubay, in the north through highway-La Union-Candijay junction or from Biabas, Ubay-San Roque, Mabini in the north or form Alicia to San Roque in the west.
Barangay Fiesta is celebrated every 28-29 of September of the year in honor of St, Michael, the Archangel, the barangay patron saint. It was known by old folks in the barangay that the miraculous Patron was seen in olden times warding off pirates with his sword in “”Batong Itumon”, one of the prominent volcanic rock that can be found along the coastline from Barangay Baybayon to Naasug-Popog point.
